The six below are the ones worth a closer look.

English prices throughout: TCGplayer market prices, September 22, 2026. Japanese prices later on are marketplace asking prices from the same date.

Mega Charizard X ex 125/094 — Special Illustration Rare

The Special Illustration Rare Mega Charizard X ex is the most valuable card in Phantasmal Flames, and it’s in a price tier of its own at $686.88.

Part of that gap comes down to scarcity: Special Illustration Rares show up in roughly one in 80 packs, and the odds on any one specific card are much longer than that. The rest is demand. Mega Charizard X is arguably the most sought-after card of the Mega Evolution era so far.

Japanese collectors chase the same illustration under a different number. In Inferno X, the same card is 110/080, marked SAR, with the same illustrator credit.

Mega Charizard X ex 130/094 — Mega Hyper Rare

The Mega Hyper Rare version of Mega Charizard X ex is the second-most-valuable card in the set at $251.00. That’s less than half what the Special Illustration Rare goes for, even though this is the hardest rarity in the set to pull.

The mismatch is worth noting before you spend. Scarcity only drives price when demand keeps up, and in Phantasmal Flames, the gold card hasn’t drawn the same attention as the Special Illustration Rare.

Mega Charizard X ex 109/094 — Ultra Rare

The Ultra Rare Mega Charizard X ex is the version most collectors can afford, at $20.19. It’s the same Pokémon at a fraction of the cost: 125/094 runs about 34 times as much, and 130/094 about 12 times.

Mega Charizard X ex has several printings in the set, down to a Double Rare at 013/094 that goes for $4.29. If you want the card in a binder rather than a vault, the cheaper printings do the job.

Dawn 129/094 — Special Illustration Rare

Dawn 129/094 is the most valuable non-Charizard card in the set at $19.80. It’s a Supporter, and the Special Illustration Rare treatment makes it the standout pick for Trainer card collectors.

The same Supporter also exists as an Ultra Rare at 118/094, which goes for $5.54, below the $10 cutoff. Dawn goes by Hikari in Japanese, which matters when you search Japanese listings.

Mega Sharpedo ex 127/094 — Special Illustration Rare

Mega Sharpedo ex 127/094 shows how wide the price spread can be within a single rarity. It’s a Special Illustration Rare, the same tier as the Charizard, but it goes for $16.82 — pocket change next to the Charizard’s $686.88.

What separates them tends to come down to the Pokémon on the card rather than the print run. Sharpedo has its fans, but nothing like the demand Charizard commands in every set it appears in.

Meowth 106/094 — Illustration Rare

Meowth 106/094 is the most valuable Illustration Rare in the set at $15.91. It’s also the only card on this list with no Inferno X printing.

The closest Japanese release is a different Meowth by the same illustrator, covered below.

Phantasmal Flames Cards That Aren’t Chase Cards

Two cards in Phantasmal Flames carry names that suggest a big pull and prices that say otherwise. Mega Gengar ex is a Double Rare at 056/094, worth $1.90, and Mega Diancie ex is a Double Rare at 041/094, worth $0.65.

Neither has an Ultra Rare or Special Illustration Rare version anywhere in the set, so there’s no high-rarity Gengar or Diancie to chase here at all. If you opened packs hoping for a premium Mega Gengar ex, the card you’re after isn’t printed in this expansion.

The same goes for plenty of higher-rarity cards. Most Ultra Rares trade under $2, including Mega Heracross ex 108/094 at $1.64, Mismagius ex 112/094 at $1.50, and Battle Cage 116/094 at $1.45. Several Illustration Rares land in the same range, such as Ludicolo 095/094 at $2.26 and Toxtricity 103/094 at $2.14.

Card

Card number

Rarity

Market price

Mega Gengar ex

056/094

Double Rare

$1.90

Mega Diancie ex

041/094

Double Rare

$0.65

Mega Heracross ex

108/094

Ultra Rare

$1.64

Mismagius ex

112/094

Ultra Rare

$1.50

Ludicolo

095/094

Illustration Rare

$2.26

Battle Cage

116/094

Ultra Rare

$1.45

Toxtricity

103/094

Illustration Rare

$2.14

Rarity tells you how hard a card is to pull. Treat 1 in 1,260 as a ballpark, not a number you can plan around.

Read these as rarity-level numbers. The odds of pulling one named card are much longer than the odds of pulling its rarity — more on that below.

How Many Packs It Takes — and Why Singles Win

Chasing a specific card in Phantasmal Flames costs more than buying it outright. The Authentication Center found one Special Illustration Rare Mega Charizard X ex in roughly every 400 packs, and at $11.93 per pack, that’s about $4,800 of sealed product for a card selling at $686.88.

The Ultra Rare route looks better on paper, but it still loses. Ultra Rares appear in about one pack in 12, but the set has 17 of them, so pulling an Ultra Rare doesn’t mean pulling the one you want. Figure on roughly 200 packs, or about $2,400, against a $20.19 single.

For perspective, a booster display box holds 36 packs, according to the Pokémon Company, so 400 packs is more than 11 boxes. That’s what chasing one card looks like.

Key points

Buy the single when you want one named card. Check what applies where you live before you order.

That leaves a simple test: the Japanese version is cheaper only when the gap before shipping and duties is bigger than what shipping and duties add. Of the three cards above, only the Special Illustration Rare Charizard has a gap worth testing. The $173 gap has to cover postage and any duty on the declared value. Whether it’s enough depends on the shipping quote and the duty rate at your destination, so check both before you commit.

That said, there are two good reasons to buy Japanese that have nothing to do with price. The first is collecting in Japanese: if you want Japanese text and the SAR and MUR marks in your binder, English cards aren’t a substitute. You can browse Inferno X listings on Neokyo’s Pokémon TCG page.

The second is sealed Japanese product, which is the only way to pull Japanese-language cards with the SAR and MUR marks yourself. A sealed Inferno X box was listed on Japanese marketplaces at a median of about ¥15,000, or roughly $95. That’s the Japanese box on its own — English sealed products are packaged differently enough that a side-by-side box price wouldn’t mean much.

How to Buy Japanese Inferno X Cards From Overseas

Japanese listings are easy to find but hard to get shipped overseas, because most platforms only ship within Japan.

Where Inferno X cards are listed in Japan and how to search

Using a proxy buying service to ship cards overseas

Where Inferno X Cards Are Listed in Japan and How to Search

Inferno X singles and sealed boxes turn up across the main Japanese platforms: Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo! Auctions, Suruga-ya, magi, Rakuten, and Amazon Japan. Each behaves differently, and those differences affect what you pay.

Mercari, Rakuma, and magi are consumer marketplaces with fixed asking prices.

Yahoo! Auctions runs timed bidding, so a displayed price may not be the final one.

Suruga-ya is a used-goods retailer with its own stock and a marketplace alongside it.

The real barrier isn’t availability — it’s that most of these platforms don’t ship outside Japan.

Search in Japanese, using the card name and number together: メガリザードンXex 110/080, ヒカリ 115/080, or 拡張パック インフェルノX for sealed product. Graded and ungraded copies show up together in the results, and the grade is usually in the listing title, so read it before comparing prices.

Using a Proxy Buying Service to Ship Cards Overseas

A proxy buying service closes the gap by acting as your address in Japan. The service buys the item on your behalf, holds it at a Japanese warehouse, combines it with anything else you’ve bought, and forwards the parcel to you. The fees are the same ones covered above: a per-item charge, a packing charge per parcel, and the carrier’s own postage.

Find the listing. Search the Japanese marketplaces for the card or sealed box you want.

Submit the listing. Send it to the proxy service and pay for the item and its handling fee.

Consolidate. Let purchases collect at the Japanese warehouse so they ship together.

Choose shipping. Pick an international method and pay the carrier’s rate.

Neokyo supports Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo! Auctions, Suruga-ya, magi, Rakuten, and Amazon Japan, which covers every platform named above. Its Pokémon TCG page lists Japanese expansions, and the Inferno X entry opens the matching Japanese search.

Browse Inferno X on Neokyo’s Pokémon TCG page

Phantasmal Flames Chase Cards: Key Takeaways Before You Buy

The chase list in Phantasmal Flames is short and top-heavy: Mega Charizard X ex 125/094 at $686.88, the same Pokémon at 130/094 for $251.00, and 109/094 at $20.19, with six more cards clearing $10. Every price here was recorded on September 22, 2026, and card prices move, so check the current figure before you commit to anything at the top of that list.

If you want one specific card, buy the single. Around 400 packs of sealed product for one Special Illustration Rare is a worse deal than paying market price, and opening packs makes sense for the fun of it rather than as a shortcut to a named card.

Buying Japanese is rarely about saving money. The Japanese version only comes out cheaper when the gap on that particular card beats the proxy fees, shipping, and duties you add by importing, and of the three cards compared here, only the Special Illustration Rare Charizard has a gap wide enough to be worth checking.
